The mayor of Miraflores, Carlos Canales, has submitted an urgent request to the National Government to implement strong actions against the increasing wave of crime affecting the country, emphasizing the need to reinforce public security in his district. During a press conference, Canales warned about the concerning panorama of criminality being experienced nationwide, pointing out that Miraflores is not immune to this issue, despite local efforts to combat it. The mayor called on the president of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, and the corresponding ministries to implement an emergency security policy that goes beyond speeches and translates into a significant increase in police personnel, a higher budget, and appropriate equipment for the Police. Currently, Miraflores has only 171 officers distributed between the two police stations in the district, a number that is insufficient when compared to the amount of residents and visitors the area receives. Nevertheless, Canales highlighted that, thanks to the joint work between the municipality and law enforcement, the crime rate in Miraflores has been reduced by 50% in the last four years. The mayor emphasized that, while the municipality contributes with over 800 security guards on the streets and technological equipment to support security, it is the responsibility of the Police to confront an increasingly violent crime. In this regard, he announced the incorporation of over 100 officers to the municipal security service and the implementation of a new technological tool, consisting of over 100 body cameras for real-time recording and monitoring of police interventions. Accompanied by the chief of the San Antonio police station, Major PNP Gustavo Ramírez Fernández-Dávila, and the manager of Citizen Security of Miraflores, Mario Arata Bustamante, Mayor Canales reiterated the importance of a joint effort between the municipality and police authorities to ensure the tranquility and well-being of the citizens in the district of Miraflores.
