A survey conducted by Lampadia with Datum has brought to light the deep distrust and discontent that the Peruvian population feels towards the judicial system in their country. The results reveal that 86% of respondents feel nervous about the possibility of being unjustly prosecuted, while 82% believe that judges and prosecutors act in a corrupt and dishonest manner. This bleak outlook is exacerbated by the unstoppable rise of crime in the country. Faced with this critical situation, the urgency of carrying out a comprehensive reform of the judicial system has been raised, aiming to restore the public's confidence in justice and effectively combat crime. In this context, various sectors of civil society, including business and labor organizations, have joined forces to propose concrete measures to address the issue of public insecurity. They have called on the government to show leadership and coordination with the Executive and Congress to implement effective policies against crime. The Minister of Justice, Eduardo Arana, has announced the intention to meet with senior officials from the Judiciary and the Prosecutor's Office to agree on an anti-crime policy, drawing on successful experiences from other countries like El Salvador. Proposed measures include changes in procedural rules, cleansing of the Police force, prevention programs for at-risk youth, and smart prisons. On the other hand, former GEIN member José Luis Gil has proposed an innovative process for selecting the Minister of the Interior, suggesting that candidates present their proposals to the Congress Security Commission and be chosen by consensus. This initiative reflects the need to unite efforts and seek effective solutions to confront the serious threat posed by crime in the country. In this scenario, it is imperative to convene all stakeholders to define a comprehensive strategy that allows for the investigation and apprehension of criminals, as well as the implementation of effective prevention programs. Institutional regeneration and modernization of the judicial system are presented as fundamental steps to restore confidence in justice and combat corruption. Ultimately, the crisis in the judicial system in Peru demands coordinated and decisive action from all institutions and actors involved. It is time to set aside differences and work together towards transparent, effective justice in service of society. The restructuring of the judicial system is an urgent challenge that requires the commitment and participation of all sectors to achieve real and lasting change.
