The number of Peruvian exporting companies has experienced a notable growth in January, reaching a total of 3,250 according to data provided by the Center for Research in Global Economics and Business of the Association of Exporters (CIEN-ADEX). This figure represents a significant increase of 12.8% compared to the same month of the previous year, when there were 2,856 exporting companies. Within this panorama, it is noteworthy that microenterprises predominated in this sector, representing 71.3% of the total, followed by small enterprises with 25.5%. On the other hand, large companies only accounted for 2.3% of the total, showing a marked concentration in the smaller units. Regarding the amount of exports, large companies were responsible for 81.9% of the goods dispatched abroad, while small, medium, and microenterprises represented lower percentages. Despite the fact that 96.8% of exporting companies are microenterprises, they only accounted for 5% of the export value, reflecting a high level of fragmentation in the Peruvian exporting business sector. The agribusiness sector led the export rankings with a total of 1,044 companies dedicated to this activity, followed by the chemical, mining, metal-mechanic, and clothing sectors. Additionally, there was an increase in the number of non-traditional exporters, with agribusiness, the chemical sector, metal-mechanics, and clothing being the main drivers of this growth. Regarding the diversification of exported products, it was highlighted that most companies exported products from a single sector, demonstrating their vulnerability to potential fluctuations in the international market. Furthermore, in terms of the number of countries they exported to, most companies exported to only one country, with the United States, the European Union, and Chile being the main destinations. In summary, the growth in the number of exporting companies in January is a positive indicator for the Peruvian economy, showing dynamism in the export sectors and diversification in export destinations. However, it is important for companies to continue working on the diversification of their products and markets to strengthen their position in the international arena.
