The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) has appointed Zósimo Juan Pichihua Serna as the new Superintendent of the Securities Market, replacing Lorena Masías Quiroga, who had been holding the position. This decision is part of the continuous effort to strengthen and revitalize the institutions responsible for regulating and supervising the financial market in the country. Juan Pichihua is an economist trained at the National Agrarian University La Molina, with a solid career both in academia and the public sector. He holds a Master of Arts in Economics from ILADES/Georgetown University and a Magister Scientiae in Agricultural Economics from the Agrarian University, where he has also taught. Within the MEF, Pichihua has held various positions and has been recognized for his work as Vice Minister of Economy, standing out for his efforts in implementing micro and macroeconomic policies, as well as in matters related to international economics, competition, productivity, and other important issues for the country's economic stability. This appointment is endorsed by the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte Zegarra, and the Minister of Economy and Finance, José Arista Arbildo, reflecting the government's commitment to promoting a solid and transparent securities market that fosters economic development and investment in Peru. It is worth noting that in a context where the traceability of gold has been a topic of debate in the country, Juan Pichihua has expressed his concern, stating that "without full traceability of gold, we are playing piñata, like children." This statement highlights the importance that the new Superintendent places on transparency and traceability in financial markets to ensure their proper functioning and prevent possible irregular practices. In this sense, it is expected that Juan Pichihua's management at the helm of the Securities Market Superintendence will contribute to strengthening the supervision and regulation of this sector, generating greater confidence for both investors and the general public.
