The College of Engineers of Peru (CIP) has presented an ambitious strategic plan to transform the cities of the country into smart environments, aiming to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants and promote sustainable development. This initiative is part of the National Smart Cities Strategy promoted by the Digital Government Secretariat of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. The president of the Electronic Engineering chapter of CIP CDLIMA, Engineer Juan Francisco Madrid, has detailed the key aspects of this plan, which is structured around 8 fundamental strategic axes. Among them, mobility and transportation, smart well-being, smart environment, quality of life and services, education and digital talent, smart economy, sustainable energy, and smart technology stand out. Each of these axes includes a series of strategic objectives and specific actions that municipalities will need to implement. Madrid emphasized that this plan aims to provide a clear guide to local authorities, as they will be responsible for carrying out the transformation towards Smart Cities in Peru. Furthermore, it has been noted that the master plan takes into account measurement indicators for smart cities, aligning with ISO standards and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the UN globally. The implementation of this plan is expected to proceed through a process consisting of four stages: diagnosis of the situation, strategic and operational formulation, execution of the roadmap, and monitoring and evaluation. One of the keys to the success of this ambitious project is ensuring adequate financing, which could come from various sources such as tax-related works, public-private partnerships, international cooperation, among others. Madrid highlighted the importance of these projects having the necessary financial support for their execution. In summary, the implementation of this master plan will mark a milestone in the development of cities in Peru, promoting efficiency, sustainability, and the improvement of the quality of life of its inhabitants. The commitment to smart cities presents itself as a path towards a more prosperous and connected future for the country.
