The Prime Minister of Peru, Gustavo Adrianzén, has raised expectations by adjusting the projections for economic growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for this year. In an interview on the program Cuarto Poder, Adrianzén announced that a growth of 2.7%, or possibly a little higher, is expected, in contrast to the previous estimates of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP), which pointed to 3%. Adrianzén explained that last year was marked by multiple factors that led to a recession, mentioning the social crisis, the Yaku cyclone, and a fiscal deficit larger than expected. The closing of 2023 saw a decline of 0.6% in the Peruvian GDP, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), and for the current year a growth of 2.7% or slightly higher is projected. In response to this economic situation, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of addressing issues such as the fiscal deficit, improving revenue collection, and access to credit for entrepreneurs. He also mentioned the need to build trust with investors as part of the dialogue agenda with congressmen. Regarding the recent decisions of the Constitutional Court and the laws passed by Congress, Adrianzén emphasized his commitment to dialogue and moderation. As a representative of the State, he stated that his focus is on seeking consensus and considering the impact of decisions in the current environment. In this context of adjusting economic expectations and calls for dialogue and prudence, the Peruvian government seeks to lay the foundations for a sustained and equitable recovery, amidst a global scenario of uncertainty and challenges.
