Citizen insecurity continues to increase in the country, while the Government seems incapable of stopping this worrying trend. With a focus on economic recovery, President Dina Boluarte's administration has overlooked one of the most urgent problems: the security of citizens. According to a recent survey conducted by Datum Internacional for El Comercio, only one in seven Peruvians feels safe in their city. This sense of vulnerability is reflected in alarming figures, such as the fact that in Lima, 92% of the population feels unsafe. Cases of murders, kidnappings, extortions, and violence have become increasingly common throughout the country, creating a constant atmosphere of fear among the population. The lack of effective actions by the Government to address this security crisis has generated criticism and concern. Despite the escalation of violence, the decision to keep the same ministers in their positions has been questioned, especially in the case of Víctor Torres, head of the Ministry of the Interior, who has faced two motions of interpellation in Congress. The Executive's passivity and lack of leadership in the fight against crime have led to an increase in fear and insecurity on the streets. Although the State has the necessary resources and legitimacy to address this issue, the lack of effective measures and the lack of direction in security policies have led to a worrying situation. If urgent measures are not taken and effective strategies are not implemented, violence in the country could escalate even further. A real commitment is needed from the highest levels of power to ensure the security of all citizens and restore peace to the streets. Otherwise, the sense of insecurity will continue to rise and the population will continue to live in fear in their own country.
