On the occasion of International Women's Day, dozens of Venezuelan women gathered in the streets of Caracas to raise their voices in demand of fair wages, decent working conditions, and adequate pensions, along with greater political participation and respect for their fundamental rights. The march, tinged with violet in honor of the feminist struggle, traversed one of the main arteries of the capital, where the protesters carried signs with slogans such as "Don't congratulate me today, better do not violate me," reflecting the urgency to eradicate gender-based violence and ensure an egalitarian society. Among the crowd, women of all ages expressed their discontent with the current situation, clamoring for labor justice and an end to discrimination. Mary Infante, from Fuerza Vecinal, expressed the need for fair wages and pensions, as well as respect for collective agreements and union autonomy. Judith León, president of the Federation of Bioanalysts Colleges of Venezuela, highlighted that while progress has been made in some aspects, inequalities persist that affect women in their daily lives. The struggle, she emphasized, continues in search of full freedom and the eradication of the violence that so many women suffer daily. On her part, Marialbert Barrios, director of Wommu, underscored the importance of being the voice for those women who cannot speak up, those who suffer inequality and discrimination without state protection. The call is clear: it is necessary to redouble efforts in the fight against gender inequality and male violence. While the Venezuelan government claims to have made progress in gender inclusion and equity, the protesters insist that there is still a long way to go to ensure fair and equitable treatment for all women in the country. On a day dedicated to commemorating the women's struggle, these voices rise strongly in search of a more egalitarian and respectful future for all.
