The National University of Engineering (UNI) has recently announced its ambitious initiative to implement four new careers that promise to revolutionize the academic and professional landscape in the country. These proposals, currently in the process of development and approval, cover cutting-edge areas and respond to the current demands of the job market and society in general. The rector of UNI, Alfonso López-Chau, has been responsible for making this exciting announcement public, highlighting the importance and potential that these new careers will bring to the field of higher education in the country. Among the proposals presented is the career of Artificial Intelligence, which, according to the dean of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering and Systems, Luis Zuloaga, has already been approved by the Faculty Council and is expected to be implemented soon once it receives the final approval from the University Council. Another innovative career in the process of creation is Biomedical Engineering, which will emerge from an alliance between various faculties of UNI, thus promoting interdisciplinarity and a comprehensive approach in the development of solutions for the health sector. Likewise, there is the possibility of creating the career of Political and Social Engineering, a pioneering proposal in the country that aims to train leaders with a multidisciplinary vision capable of facing social and political challenges from a comprehensive perspective. Furthermore, UNI is making progress in the implementation of the Professional School of Urban Planning in undergraduate studies, a career that promises to train professionals specialized in urban planning and city development management. While it is true that these projects are subject to the final approval of the University Council, which implies a thorough analysis and evaluation of their study plans and academic objectives, UNI is optimistic and committed to its mission of promoting the training of highly qualified professionals adapted to the demands of the current world. In conclusion, the new careers proposed by UNI not only promise to enrich its academic offerings but also contribute to the development of the country by training professionals capable of facing the challenges and opportunities of an ever-evolving world. Higher education in Peru is preparing to take a step forward with the implementation of these innovative proposals.
