England spinner Jack Leach is set to undergo surgery on his left knee after an injury forced him to cut short his tour of India. The 32-year-old will have the operation on Tuesday to address the swelling that has persisted. Leach's troubles with injuries are unfortunately not new. He has been grappling with Crohn's disease and previously missed a series against Australia due to a stress fracture in his back. In 2019, during the tour of New Zealand, he faced a life-threatening situation when he contracted sepsis. Despite the knee injury, Leach displayed remarkable resilience by bowling 36 overs during England's impressive victory over India in the first Test in Hyderabad. Reflecting on his ordeal, Leach shared, "It was the second ball of the first innings in the field, so that whole game I was playing with this knee problem. I obviously knocked it a few times throughout that game and it has just created a long period of recovery." Looking ahead, Leach expressed his eagerness to undergo the surgery and return to the cricket field. He stated, "I need to get the operation done and then hopefully I can get back to playing cricket. I'd love to have a run of playing cricket and getting into a bit of a rhythm again and hopefully that can happen again once I've got this sorted." The news of Leach's surgery comes as a blow to England's cricket team, as his presence and skill in the spin department will be sorely missed. Fans will be eagerly awaiting his successful recovery and return to the sport, hoping to see him back in action soon.
