Inter Miami has made a significant move by signing Argentine youth star Federico Redondo for a reported fee of $8 million. The 21-year-old midfielder has inked a contract with the club that runs through the 2027 MLS season, with a club option for 2028. Redondo's arrival at Inter Miami comes as he qualifies as an U22 signing, allowing the club to reduce his hit on the salary budget to $200,000. He joins the team as a season-ending injury replacement for fellow U22 Initiative player Facundo Farías. Miami's chief soccer officer and sporting director, Chris Henderson, expressed his excitement about Redondo's potential impact on the team, stating, "He's a very promising player who is sharp with the ball at his feet, and shows awareness out of possession. We believe in his potential, but also feel he will immediately be a strong addition to our squad as we look to build on our successes in 2024." Federico Redondo, the son of former football great Fernando Redondo, made his breakthrough at Argentinos Juniors in 2022, amassing 59 league and cup appearances and scoring two goals. He has also represented Argentina at the youth international level, featuring in the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup and the ongoing Conmebol pre-Olympic qualifying tournament with the U23s. Expressing his enthusiasm about joining Inter Miami, Redondo remarked, "I'm very happy to join a Club that is growing so much. It's a great opportunity to share the pitch with top players. I'm looking forward to integrating in the group with my teammates. We have to go step by step but always dream big." Redondo's addition strengthens the Argentine presence at Inter Miami, alongside legendary forward Lionel Messi and coach Gerardo "Tata" Martino. His signing also coincides with the unfortunate injury setback suffered by Farías, who is set to miss the entire 2024 season due to a torn ACL. The young midfielder is expected to fill the void left by Gregore, who recently departed for Brazilian club Botafogo. Before officially joining Inter Miami, Redondo bid farewell to Argentinos Juniors on social media, expressing gratitude to the club and its supporters for their unwavering backing throughout his time there. With Redondo now set to don the Inter Miami colors, fans eagerly anticipate witnessing his development and contributions to the team as they strive for further success in the MLS.
