On Wednesday, the United States Congress was the scene of an intense interrogation carried out by Republican lawmakers towards James Biden, brother of President Joe Biden, as part of an investigation related to alleged shady financial transactions carried out by the Biden family in Ukraine and China. Conservatives leading this inquiry have accused President Biden of using his influence during his time as Vice President under Barack Obama to favor questionable business dealings of his relatives. However, so far, no concrete evidence has been presented to support these accusations. During his appearance, 74-year-old James Biden emphatically stated that President Joe Biden had no direct relationship or financial interest in the questioned financial activities. He asserted that throughout his 50-year business career, Joe Biden stayed clear of such transactions. The investigation, seen by many Democrats as a political maneuver in a crucial election year, has lost credibility in recent weeks after the indictment of a former FBI informant, Alexander Smirnov. This individual is suspected of spreading false information and lying about alleged corruption by Hunter Biden, the president's son. Smirnov accused Joe and Hunter Biden of receiving million-dollar bribes to favor a Ukrainian company, accusations that have been discredited. The U.S. prosecution revealed that the informant admitted to obtaining part of the information from sources linked to Russian intelligence services, casting doubt on the veracity of his claims. Hunter Biden, 54, has been the target of criticism by Republicans, who have questioned his business activities. However, so far, no legal investigation has confirmed the accusations against him, focusing more on his personal issues such as his addiction to drugs and alcohol. In this context, the investigation led by Republicans appears to be losing strength and credibility, raising doubts about their motivations and the validity of the accusations against the Biden family. Meanwhile, Joe Biden continues to focus on his role as president, facing the challenges posed by his term in a complex political and social environment.
