The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) has announced the reactivation of 87 investment projects in the agricultural sector, with a total estimated investment of S/ 973.1 million. This measure aims to directly benefit more than 109,000 producing families in 19 regions of the country, focusing on improving irrigation for over 77,000 hectares of crops. Among these initiatives, the signing of the agreement for the third stage of negotiations for the Chavimochic project between the governments of Peru and Canada stands out, aligning with the announcement by the Minister of Economy, José Arista, regarding the unlocking of investment projects. The execution of this stage is projected to benefit 129,500 producers and create around 150,000 direct jobs, while also improving irrigation for 48,000 hectares and incorporating an additional 63,000 hectares into agricultural production. Additionally, Midagri has launched the National Program of Technified Irrigation, with the support of a US$ 126.53 million loan from the World Bank. This program aims to benefit 7,767 agricultural producers in 19 departments, implementing 130 technified irrigation projects. The initiative seeks to strengthen water user organizations, improve water use efficiency, and increase agricultural productivity in areas vulnerable to climate change. On another front, the ministry inaugurated the agricultural drainage system Iglesia Vieja - San Isidro in the Jequetepeque valley, a project valued at over S/ 13 million that will benefit 1,200 crop producers of crops such as alfalfa and sugarcane, covering 1,900 hectares of agricultural land. In the realm of rural land titling, Midagri has delivered 58,032 property titles to native and peasant communities in 10 regions, with the aim of providing legal security and facilitating access to state services and programs for farmers. To address the water deficit in the southern part of the country, 38,255.4 tons of supplementary feed have been provided for livestock, as well as phytotents with hydroponic cultivation modules, forage conservation kits, and foliar application kits for fertilizer production. Additionally, maintenance and rehabilitation of 437 wells have been carried out and 832 qochas (reservoirs) built to benefit 15,216 families in 136 districts. These actions by Midagri seek to promote agricultural development in the country, generating employment, improving production, and providing support to rural communities to strengthen their food security and economic autonomy.
