The Minister of Economy, José Arista, has announced the possible implementation of an austerity plan in the public sector, with the aim of reducing expenses and improving the country's macroeconomic stability. Faced with a scenario in which the fiscal deficit has exceeded expectations and the set target for this year, a review and adjustment of the National Government's expenses is necessary. According to statements by Arista, they aim to cut up to 10% of public spending, focusing on areas such as vehicle purchases, controlling gasoline expenses, and consultancy services. These measures would complement the actions taken in previous years to improve resource management efficiency. The former Minister of Economy and Finance, Carlos Oliva, supported the austerity initiative and pointed out that there are budget items that could be reduced without affecting the quality of public services. In this sense, he emphasized the importance of avoiding salary increases this year to ensure economic stability. On the other hand, the former Vice Minister of Economy and Finance, Carlos Casas, highlighted the need to establish a dialogue with Congress to reach an agreement that allows controlling public spending and maintaining tax stability. In a context where there have been increases in bonuses in the public sector, a joint effort is necessary to avoid putting more pressure on the State's finances. Regarding the details of the austerity plan, it is expected to focus on items such as goods and services, with a particular emphasis on reducing expenses on consultancy services and other budget allocations that do not result in tangible products. These cuts could reach the S/ 21,915 million allocated to goods and services, with a focus on optimizing resources without compromising the quality of public services. In conclusion, the implementation of an austerity plan in the public sector is presented as a necessary measure to face current economic challenges and ensure the sustainability of the State's finances. Dialogue between the Executive and the Legislative branches will be key to achieving consensus and advancing in reducing spending without affecting the provision of essential services to the population.
