The adoption of cloud technology in Peru is proving to be a catalyst for economic growth and job creation in the country, according to a study presented by FTI Consulting in collaboration with Amazon Web Services. The economic impact of this technological transition is projected to be highly positive for the Peruvian economy in the coming years, with the creation of 1.4 million additional jobs and a significant increase in economic production and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). During the study presentation, Damián Martínez, managing director of FTI Consulting, highlighted that Peru is at the forefront in cloud adoption compared to other Latin American countries analyzed in the study. This transition is expected to benefit the agricultural sector, which is projected to be the main recipient of additional jobs resulting from the implementation of cloud technologies. The impact is not limited to the private sector, as the government is also investing in digital transformation through the adoption of cloud services in critical areas. The National Institute of Research on Glaciers and Mountain Ecosystems (INAIGEM) was mentioned as one of the first government agencies to adopt this technology, significantly reducing operational costs and improving service efficiency. On the other hand, private companies in Peru have also started integrating cloud technology into their operations, with success stories like Grupo Romero, which has improved data security and reduced the risk of cyberattacks through the adoption of this technology. The Cloud Computing training offered by Amazon Web Services has enabled a large number of Peruvians to acquire the necessary skills to work in this growing sector. While Peru has made progress in cloud adoption, there are still challenges ahead in terms of digital governance. According to the MIT Technology Review Insights Global Cloud Ecosystem Index 2022, the country lags behind others in this aspect. However, it is expected that with the implementation of appropriate policies and regulatory frameworks, Peru can fully leverage the economic and social benefits derived from the adoption of cloud technologies. In summary, the adoption of cloud technology in Peru not only represents an opportunity to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of businesses, but also promises a positive impact on job creation and long-term economic growth. With a strategic focus and collaboration between the public and private sectors, the country is positioned to maximize the benefits of this ongoing technological revolution.
