The Transport Commission of Congress, chaired by Eduardo Salhuana, is preparing to carry out an event of great relevance for the economic future of Peru. The International Symposium "Special Economic Zones in Peru: Reality and Perspectives" will take place tomorrow, bringing together national and international experts to discuss the potential of these economic areas in the country's development. Among the distinguished international experts participating in the event are figures such as the President of the Senate of Uruguay, Sebastián Andújar, the National Director of Free Zones of the Ministry of Economy of Uruguay, Ana Alfie, and the representative of the Association of Free Zones of the Americas (Colombia), Juan Barbosa, among others. The Government will be represented by the ministers José Arista (Economy), Juan Carlos Mathews (Foreign Trade and Tourism) and Raúl Pérez-Reyes (Transport), demonstrating the Executive's interest in this important topic. The President of Congress, Alejandro Soto, will also participate in the event, as well as governors, provincial mayors, and district mayors who have been invited to take part in the discussions. The main objective of this symposium is to open a space for debate and analysis on Special Economic Zones, a crucial topic for the country's economic development. Salhuana highlighted the importance of bringing together renowned experts to discuss the current situation and prospects of Special Economic Zones in Peru, as well as their potential to boost economic growth. Special Economic Zones are areas of the national territory where qualified users can carry out industrial, commercial, service, and logistics activities under a special legal, tax, customs, and foreign trade regime. Although Salhuana presented a bill for the creation of Special Economic Zones, it has not yet been addressed in the Parliament's Economy Commission. The initiative aims to attract and promote national and foreign investment, develop infrastructure, increase job creation, and diversify exports of goods and services. In summary, this event is seen as a crucial point in the discussion on Peru's economic future and the possible implementation of Special Economic Zones as a driver of development.
