The Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) has requested an extension for the submission of the new opinion on the Amnesty Law, generating criticism from the Popular Party (PP) which accuses the PSOE of giving in to the demands of the separatists. Through a written communication addressed to the Congress Bureau, the deputy spokesperson of the Socialist Group, Montse Mínguez, has requested an extension of the initial deadline of 15 days, which expires on February 21, for the issuance of the opinion on the Organic Law proposition for the institutional, political, and social normalization of Catalonia. It should be noted that the amnesty law was rejected in the plenary session of Congress on January 30, which led the Bureau to return it to the Justice Committee for a new opinion to be debated and voted on, one that could have the support of Junts in order for the law to move forward. In response to this extension request, the PP has expressed its disagreement, accusing the PSOE of weakness for seeking more time to negotiate with their separatist partners. According to the PP, this measure by the PSOE is in line with their intention to continue giving in to Junts' demands to ensure their support for the Amnesty Law proposition. The PP has pointed out that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, is willing to do anything to stay in power, stating that his term is characterized by an excess of concessions. In the PP's opinion, the request for an extension for the submission of the new opinion indicates that Sánchez is willing to compromise his principles in order to obtain Junts' support. In this context of political tensions, the PSOE's request for an extension has created a new point of friction among the parties in Congress, highlighting the differences regarding the Amnesty Law and the negotiation strategies that each political party is willing to pursue on this delicate issue.
