The investigation into the 'Troll Factory' case involving the President of Congress, Alejandro Soto, has been declared complex by the Public Ministry and will be extended until April 2024. The Prosecutor's Office opened a preliminary investigation in August 2023 against Soto and Phenélope Johana Contreras Cabezas for their alleged involvement in the creation of fake accounts on social media, known as 'trolls', to defend the parliamentarian and attack those who criticized him. The investigation period has been extended for eight months, allowing the prosecution to continue with the inquiries until April of this year. According to a report by Cuarto Poder, advisors to Alejandro Soto, including Eduardo Quezada, Sandra Rodríguez, and Phenélope Contreras, would have been paid by the State to create these fake accounts and manipulate public opinion in favor of the congressman. The victims of these 'trolls' would be parliamentarians Luis Aragón, Guido Bellido, and Katy Ugarte, who received attacks and negative criticism from these advisors of Soto. With the announcement by the Prosecutor's Office to declare the investigation as complex and extend the deadline, it is expected that more diligences will be carried out and evidence will be collected to determine the responsibility of those involved in this case. Society expects a fair and transparent investigation to clarify the facts and punish those responsible if their involvement in these illegal activities is proven.
