The Japanese Film Festival has arrived in our country with its first edition, presenting a variety of films that represent the high level of Japanese cinema. Standing out in the program is "Drive My Car", the film that won the Academy Award for Best International Film in 2020. In addition to this outstanding film, the festival offers an eclectic selection that includes dramas such as "And So the Baton is Passed" and "Father of the Milky Way Railroad", a comedy called "Mondays", a thriller titled "Lesson in Murder", and also some animated films like "Cocolors" and "Weathering with You". The focus is also on youth-oriented films, such as "The Line that Defines Me" and "The Water Flows to the Sea". The festival is organized by the Japan Foundation in Lima, in collaboration with the Al Este festival, and will take place in different venues in the city, including the Place of Memory (LUM), Cineplanet in San Miguel, the Alliance Française in Miraflores, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC), and the Cultural Center of Cayetano Heredia University. This is the first Spanish-speaking venue in South America for the Japan Foundation, which has venues in 25 countries around the world. The arrival of this foundation in Peru is due to the strong historical and cultural relations between both countries, especially commemorating the 125 years of Japanese immigration to Peru and the 150 years of diplomatic relations. In addition to the film festival, the Japan Foundation plans to bring manga artists to give workshops at the PUCP Cultural Center and the presentation of the Tohoku 6 Ken Roll Show group at the Municipal Theater. The foundation, which operates from an office in San Isidro, seeks collaborations with other institutions to carry out its cultural activities in the country.
