The Steadfast Defender maneuvers, the most significant ones for NATO since the Cold War, involve over 90,000 soldiers from 32 member countries, aiming to improve the interoperability of allied armies in the event of a conflict with Russia. The Saber Strike exercise, led by the 5th US Army Corps, had the participation of soldiers from various countries, including Spain. The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased through a message on Twitter, as did the Spanish Army and political leaders like Alberto Núñez Feijóo.
