In a recent speech before the UN tribunal, the Russian ambassador to The Hague, Vladimir Tarabrin, has pointed to the United States as responsible for the war in Gaza, attributing the conflict to what he described as a "short-sighted approach" by Washington and its allies. Tarabrin emphasized that the current escalation of violence in Gaza is not an isolated incident, but has been preceded by a persistent policy of freezing the status quo and diluting political processes by the United States and its allies. According to the Russian ambassador, this strategy has led to a foreseeable failure that has claimed thousands of innocent lives. The Russian diplomat lamented the current situation and underscored the need for the international community to intervene to create conditions that allow for breaking the current impasse and resuming dialogue between the parties involved in the conflict in Gaza. Additionally, Tarabrin emphasized the importance of addressing the underlying causes of the conflict, pointing out that the security of both Israelis and Palestinians can only be achieved if the root of the current crisis is addressed. He warned of the inevitability of future outbreaks of violence if the Palestinian people are not allowed to exercise their right to establish an independent state after decades of injustice. The Russian ambassador criticized indiscriminate violence against civilians and rejected the justification of this practice based on the duty to protect Israeli nationals. According to Tarabrin, violence only leads to more violence, and hatred breeds more hatred, perpetuating a vicious cycle that must be broken. In this context, Russia has urged Israel and other Western countries to reconsider their approaches to the conflict in Gaza and to work towards a peaceful solution that addresses the legitimate demands of all parties involved. The international community now faces the challenge of finding ways to overcome the current crisis and move towards lasting peace in the region.
